Markus Huemer. I could have done you the same exhibition again and again

27. March 2019 – 30. June 2019

In his works, Markus Huemer poses the question of the possibility of painting in the digital age. He enters border areas in which the reference to images replaces and overlays the actual images, in which the boundaries between the original and the derivative become blurred. In his “Thumbnail” series he paints his own pictures in the miniature format of 9 x 13 cm on the basis of his own picture algorithm. Each “thumbnail” turns out to be its own original. And unlike in the digital world, these “thumbnails” even turn out to be three-dimensional image objects that occupy more depth than his canvases. In the exhibition, they engage with his so-called Black Boxes, which testify to an event that has wiped itself out. Huemer sends the viewer on a roller coaster ride through analogue and digital worlds of images, always close to the abyss of the impossibility of images. A catalogue with texts by Reinhard Spieler and Katja Blomberg is being published.

Opening: Tuesday, 26.3.2019, 6.30 p.m.
